Oh my goodness, time flies! - Dec 14, 2023

So, we did finally get the header all fixed and back in place! The companionway cover is better than new and that leak is fixed. Unfortunately, we didn't have as much luck with the hatch, so for now, it is taped shut and we will rebed/replace it in the spring. It did take the WHOLE two weeks of Michael's vacation.... minus the very last day! So we did get him out one time, and boy did we enjoy it after not sailing for so long :-)

Thanksgiving was pretty uneventful - we did take the day off from working on the boat, but we ate leftover pizza and just hung out together. We had a pretty good day, even if not your traditional feast!

Since then, a few things have changed....

Today, we finished cleaning out our apartment and turned in the keys! We are officially addressless (aside from our private mailboxes) - living on the boat and doing our best to make it work for now. The last couple of weeks have flown by as Bean and I worked on finishing up some of the small projects on the boat (replacing hoses, organizing, missing hinges - nothing too exciting), and we worked to get everything left in the apartment into storage.

I also decided to get back into the software world. I've updated my linkedin profile, set up on hired, started taking my udemy classes to freshen up my skillset, and started networking to see what I can find. It is time to end this sabbatical and get back to software, and it has been an amazing, super refreshing sabbatical!

We are also kind of poking at upgrading the boat. We have a limited budget for now - but something with three cabins, and more than 6'1 headroom, (so Michael can stand up inside), would really make this adventure a lot more comfortable for everyone. We aren't in a rush, but if the right boat comes along, we will definitely make the move.

We got to see our first boat parade this past Saturday - it was pretty neat to see the boats all lit up - though we heard normally there are a lot more - the weather was kind of icky so I think a lot of boats backed out. Here are a couple of the highlights - I'll be compiling a video later so stay tuned for that:

So now, we are back into a bit of a rythym, working together and playing together, and sailing when we can. We got our first 'cold' sail this past week. Michael was off on Monday and Tuesday, so we went out on Tuesday. We left early, so the temperature was still in the 50's, but was supposed to get into the 60's for the afternoon. It was a bit chilly with the wind - we were beating for most of the morning, and then did some broad reaches heading back in. The wind was 10-15 kts and it felt good to get some speed again - we hit our new speed record - 7.3! I kept adding layers and eventually looked like 'Bernie' from 'Weekend at Bernie's', but it was a great time and felt good to be on the bay again.

For now, that gets you up to date! Wish me luck in my job search and beautiful days for some sailing - our next goal is to take a long weekend and make it offshore.... I'll keep you posted!
