Buying a boat in Florida? October 2022

Updated: Apr 22, 2023

So, we found a potential boat - in Florida. This is just after hurricane Ian, so life in Florida is pretty complicated right now. There is a PDQ 36 named Reverie that looks beautiful online. Our broker has warned us that pictures online are often older though...

So, we put in a offer, with a stipulation that we see the boat first, and we booked Michael on a flight! Our broker arranged with the selling broker to have him show the boat, and Michael went on an adventure :-)

Of course, this boat is in an area that was one of the most damaged by the hurricane, so there isn't much infrastructure, hotels are scarce, rental cars are even more scarce... but somehow how found a rental (I think one of those rent someone's personal car sites), and got to the boat. It was not as pretty as the pictures... it had definitely been sitting neglected in someone's backyard for awhile. Fortunately, it was in a channel area away from the worst of the damage and it doesn't appear to have suffered. Michael gave us the green light, with the warning that it will be a lot of work to clean it up, so we are working on scheduling a survey and a diver - all three of us plan to fly out to see it for the survey - fingers crossed :-)
