Our offer was accepted, and now we are on to our second survey. We decided it was worth it to use the same surveyor - Mike Firestone is amazing - so we coordinated with him and will be paying for his hotel for the night in order to have him come up to Galveston and do this survey for us (it is about 4 hours north of Corpus Christi).
There were a few more things to do on this boat than we initially thought, but nothing that is super scary. It is a pretty simple boat, and I am a quick learner, with Michael's guidance, I think I can tackle it. There are a couple things to fix in the fuel lines, the 120V is there, but very poorly installed, so basically we'll need to install anything we want, and there is a small concern with the mast where it looks like the shrouds have been chafing a bit and caused some damage.
After discussing and much talk, we decided to do it. The boat is right in the budget point we wanted, the work seems manageable, and it really is a pretty boat. The outside was freshly painted recently, and the inside looks nice. It is a bit small (Michael can't stand up inside), but it will be a perfect first boat for us to get some experience and comfort level, and hopefully be ready to upgrade in a year or two.
We have asked the broker if it is possible to close before New Year's - I don't think Christmas is possible at this point, but we'll see what they can do!
