More boat shopping - Dec 2, 2022

Writer: Christy LynnChristy Lynn

After seeing way to many run down boats in Corpus Christi, we decided to go to Kemah for the weekend again and see a few boats up there. Unfortunately, Corpus Christi seems to be the place boats go to die. People buy them thinking they will come out and use them every weekend (when they live 2.5 hours away in San Antonio), and then never come out, let them fall apart, and then sell them.

Since we aren't looking for an expensive project boat, we decided to try Kemah again. We had three boats lined up to go look at and were hoping at least one would work out. The first two were a definite no-go - just as run down as the ones in Corpus, but the third one looked really promising.

It is a steel boat, a Bruce Roberts, custom built, 36'. It is a little small, but it looks really nice, it has a great cockpit, the inside feels good. It has no electronics, so we would be going back to basics - charts and a compass, but we all think that might be good experience for us. On first glance, it will need some electrical work - it has a lot of 12V, but no 120V - which we will need for the computers, but we are confident we could add that to this boat.

We spent about 2 hours at this boat, sat in the cockpit discussing the pros and cons and eventually decided to make an offer! Hopefully this one works out!
