Started today with errands, ran out and got lots of new toys, including the ones I mentioned yesterday. I ended up going with pipe strap for the LG100 because I couldn't find a nice u-bracket, but it worked out ok.
While I was out, I also picked up the 12V outlet for the salon. So, once back at the boat, I attempted to install that first. Unfortunately, it was not as simple of a swap out because of the confined space. The current one (cigarette lighter style) has the blades bent in the back because they didn't make enough space before trying to install. So, for now, I put that one back in. Once I am done with fuel projects, I will come back to that and cut out some more space so it fits properly and doesn't bend anything.
Next up, installing the LG100. I hopped down into the lazarette, pulled the bottom barb out and replaced it with the 90 degree barb. Then I used the pipe strap to mount it to the bulkhead. Grabbed my hose clamps and installed the first part of the fuel vent line. Success!
Next up was starting to clean/replace fuel filters. Unfortunately, that was where my day ended, but I did learn a bit. I took off the fuel/water separator hoping to be able to clean it, or quickly find a replacement for the filter if it couldn't be cleaned, but found that it does not appear to be anything currently standard, and it looks pretty wrecked. I MAY be able to use carb cleaner and get it looking nice again, or I may just do a replacement. I'll head to Blackburn's tomorrow and get their advice on clean/replace - it doesn't look like they are very expensive, and the tech is probably much better now - I believe this one is original equipment (from 1991).
The learning was me watching you tube videos and googling what fuel water separator filters do, how they work, and trying to understand why mine looked so different from all the ones I saw online. So many new things to learn when you own a boat. I feel like I have learned more in the last two months than in the last two years - maybe not, but definitely an entirely new subject area!
And with that, it is time to relax again. We decided to skip going to the apartment mid-week so we can get an early start tomorrow. Blackburn's and then to a fabricator to check out the fill pipe options, wish me luck!
