This morning we decided to get an early start to try and beat the heat, and we decided to tackle the largest part of the project. Eight am sharp we started prepping the deck. Surprisingly, we managed to get it all done by eleven.
We started same as the area behind the steering wheel - clean, tape, sand, wipe, and then I would pour while Bean would use the brush to spread it out, and then roll each section. As the heat started rising, we had to switch tactics a little - I would pour and use the brush while Bean followed with the roller - and then I would follow behind that pulling up the painter's tape. We did learn a bit about applying tape to each section so it can be removed as you go... a couple times we had to rip the tape to remove it from the previous section so we could move on the next sections, but overall it was a pretty smooth job.
It came out so beautifully, we even got offered a job to do it on someone's else boat ;-) We haven't decided if we will accept or not yet!
After a great lunch, and bolstered by our success of the morning, we decided to tackle the rest of the cockpit today too.
We laid out a plan to make sure we didn't paint ourselves into a corner, did the prep work, and then started at the port side and worked our way over to the starboard side before climbing off and calling it a day :-) All said, we still wrapped up about 14:30.
Now we will hang out at the apartment for the night and then get back to it tomorrow morning. We plan to take a slight detour tomorrow (our bodies need a rest from the bending and crouching!) - we are going to get some wood to support the jerry cans, drill holes for the ubolts, and then varnish the wood.
Next week we will wrap up the port and starboard sides and move on to other projects!
