With Friday being a half day, I didn't make quite as much progress as I hoped, but I did get all the fuel hoses replaced - I just didn't drain and add the final hose. Still, progress was made, and we picked up Michael for the weekend, so it was a good day :-)
Saturday the weather was a little cool, so we decided to hold off on wrapping up and starting the engine until Sunday, but we just couldn't help ourselves and still did some work on the boat! We drilled the first hole in the hull.... for the fuel vent. Then we mixed up our first epoxy and painted the hole as well as the primed spot in the cockpit. A little bit goes a long way! We need to be a little more prepared with places to paint before we mix it up next time - and maybe do an even smaller batch - but it was a good learning experience and we had fun. After a couple hours we installed the fuel vent in the hole and called it day.
On Sunday, we finished the final hose for the venting, drained a little from the tank, and started the engine!!! Yay!!! Success! It was a beautiful sound to hear the engine start right up. That called for a celebration night :-)
Unfortunately, Monday morning, we realized we had done something slightly out of order... we put the fuel pump as the FIRST thing after the tank - which would have been perfect if we went with the priming bulb with a Y valve like we originally discussed - but with the electric pump pass through is just asking for a clog failure... So, off to the store I went to get some new hose and we redid the fuel lines putting the electric pump after the fuel water separator and the first fuel filter.
This time, we didn't do quite as good a job at bleeding the system (I think we were too excited to get it running), so we had a couple stops and starts - but once we got all the air out of the system it ran like a champ again :-)
