Yay! We made it back to the boat today! We took the morning to get him settled and working, pack up our stuff in the apartment, and go grocery shopping for the boat, then we headed back, unpacked, ate lunch and were ready to start working around 1 pm to start our new chapter.
First thing to do was get back to the fuel system. We left it empty and ready to start cleaning and replacing parts. Today I managed to get the two reducers off, so now I can take those parts to the store and build the new fuel feed and fuel emptying lines. We want to install an elbow to keep the lines closer to the tank instead of running over into the middle of the hull and potentially getting stepped on/interfering with other lines/etc. so I need to take the beginning parts for the connection to the tank and then build the new lines from there, starting with the shut off valve on both of them this time!
Above: fuel fill line that needs hose replaced (cut off to allow board removal)
Below: two tank openings - left for fuel feed to engine, right for emptying
Below: the ugly part removed - this was the fuel feed line - two pvc valves in a diesel fuel line, no shut off at the tank (it was in the line), and nice kink in the line before the shut-off valve
There is also a hose inside the tank, we believe the purpose is to get fuel from the lowest corner of the tank instead of starting at the valve - I'll take that part out when I do the cleaning and see if there is anything I need to replace/re-invent for that.
Tomorrow, I plan to do the tapping for the sender unit. Now that the tank is empty, and before I clean it - I will drill holes, and give them the thread pattern for the new sender unit. Then, if time allows, I will dive in and start cleaning the tank! Wish me luck!
For now, we are going to go relax, and celebrate progress made today :-)
