We have started doing half days on Fridays since Michael has half days on Fridays - so Friday morning, I just ran some errands and picked up things to wrap up the fuel. Then we went and picked up some lunch, grabbed Michael and came back to the boat for the night to relax.
Saturday we made a little more progress. I installed the fuel fill - it went in very smoothly and nice ;-) - and Michael and Bean worked on starting the steel repair. They picked two spots - one small where they used the dremel, and one large where they used the angle grinder. Both are now primed and ready for paint. I also dipped the fuel/water separator parts into the carb cleaner and boy did that make a difference! We are going to try and re-use the parts after the cleaning, I just need to buy some new o-rings next week.
As usual, Sunday we rested. Relaxed, watched TV/movies, ate pizza, you know, had some fun ;-)
Monday was a little different because Bean and I had dentist appointments - we were due for cleanings, so we made a couple appointments - and of course, new dentist wants their own x-rays and yada yada - so several hours later we just went back to the apartment to relax for the night again and start Tuesday morning.
And that brings us to today. Today was a good day. I officially have the rigging scheduled so that has lit a fire under me. They are pulling the mast on May 10, we plan to bring the boat to Kemah on May 9 and get a transient slip for the night, and then head back here on May 10 if it is early enough, otherwise, we'll come back on the 11th.
Bean and I added some fuel to the tank today - 20 gallons to be exact. As we poured in each 5 gallon container, we took note of what the fuel gauge read (since the tank is shaped funny, we knew it wouldn't be exact and we want to have an idea of how much fuel is left at different readings). The first 5 gallons brought it up over 1/4 of a tank! So, we definitely do not want to let it get that low in the future. 1/2 tank was at 15 gallons, so I think we will set that as our 'go look for a fuel station' point. No leaks so I guess I did a good job Saturday ;-)
Then I decided to tackle the raw water side. The strainer is leaking a little and needs a new o-ring, and there is a tee in the line from an old salt water pump for the galley that no longer exists. Unfortunately, the space was too tight for me to get to right now - I'll need to tackle that once the fuel is done and I can put most of the stuff on my berth into the lazarette and open the area from the top.
Since I couldn't make progress there, I decided to draw out where the new fuel vent would go - Michael and I discussed it on Saturday and came up with a good plan, I just need to draw it out so we can drill the hole when we are ready. Thankfully, there is a cleat near the area, so I used the screws on that as a straight edge to get a good idea of where it should be placed.
After that, I grabbed the fuel/water separator and put all the o-rings together so I can shop for them tomorrow. We had the smallest one, so I went ahead and put that one on, one less thing to do tomorrow.
Now it is time to rest and relax, that was a long, but very successful day :-)
