Girls Get It Done - Apr 17, 2023

This morning was the usual Monday morning goodbyes, and heading back to the boat. I started with running some errands for parts I need this week (some ordered via amazon over the weekend, some sourcing locally). Nothing too exciting in the errands, but not a bad way to start a Monday ;-)

While I was gone, Bean decided to finish the cockpit preparation, removing the last two pieces of wood, cleaning, and sanding. This is what it looked like before:

and this is what it looks like now - waaaay better, and just waiting for some non-rainy days so we can prime and paint

Once I got back to the boat, I was in the mood to do a little electrical work. While running errands, I saw the usb outlets, so I picked one up, hoping it would be an easy swap out for one of the cigarette lighter style. It was for the one in the aft cabin, so I quickly disconnected that one, and put the new one in - it was super simple and I feel better having a proper usb outlet there now.

Then I decided to try and troubleshoot that pesky light in the forward cabin. I took everything apart and snipped the wires so I had fresh material to work with. I then grabbed the fluke and tested that I had power in the wires coming from the ceiling - I did, so I knew it was something funky in my connection. I then stripped and prepped the wires from the led light and jumped it to the wires to make sure the light hadn't just given up the ghost - it also worked. I then added new connectors, shrink wrapped it and did one final test - everything was working as expected so I mounted it to the ceiling and called it a day. My best guess at this point is that the original connectors (they were already on the wires) had some corrosion or dirt and it just didn't have a good contact. By removing the connectors and starting fresh, everything worked as expected.

On Sunday, Michael figured out where we will put the fuel vent, and it is NOT in the head as we originally intended (there was just no way to make that work), so I now need to put the head back together. I decided to start that project today to wrap up the afternoon. I got all of the 'screw in' pieces back up, and organized the rest of the trim that needs to be nailed in. I tried doing a couple nails, but it is upside down, and I am new and weak... so they didn't go in - I'll try that part again another day! But for now, the head is clean again and a bit more organized

Now it is time to relax and get ready for tomorrow.
