A week later, we are finally back to working on the boat. It has been an interesting week though!
We went back to Corpus Christi to see Michael on Thursday night, and stayed through Monday afternoon. Neither of us really wanted to leave, we have missed him quite a bit here. We talked about different options for living arrangements when the apartment lease is up, we packed some stuff up to ready it for storage, and we made the decision to move the storage up here near Galveston/Hitchcock - it just makes more sense at this point since we aren't bringing the boat back down to CC.
So, we left Monday afternoon after running some errands and restocking the fridge for him, and we started looking for apartments or houses to rent. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of short term options here - I have only found a couple that are willing to do less than 12 months, and they are expensive or have a wait list.
So, we pivoted one more time and I started looking at buying an RV! That was quite the adventure, trying to learn everything I could about buying an RV in two days. We looked at quite a few, but again, to buy now and try to sell in just a few short months there didn't seem to be a way to make that work that would be less than rent, plus it would add all of the overhead of buying/selling/parking it.
So, Wednesday night, we admitted defeat - at least temporarily. I will continue to work on the boat until the end of the month, at which point, we will collect Michael, he will move back to the boat, and we will have to work nights and weekends on the boat until we find another solution (maybe one of the wait listed places).
We decided to have a couple drinks, and go hang out at the hot tub, and had a great time - until Bean had a little too much confidence and tried to jump the gap at the pier getting back to the boat.... and missed.... thankfully, there were people nearby that were able to help her get out, but she was pretty scraped up. We did our best to clean it that night with peroxide, neosporin, and bandages, and then Thursday morning I took her over to the urgent care center where they gave her a tetanus shot and some antibiotics (the water and the barnacles here are pretty dirty and likely to be infected), then cleaned it up a little better and properly dressed it.
We figured that was enough excitement for one day, so we got groceries, cleaned up a little, and took showers, and then relaxed for the day.
Today we kicked off boat projects again. We scheduled with Tommy to have him buy the extra fuel tomorrow morning so we can do the work on the tank (new sender unit, access plate, and redoing the fuel line to remove the kink and the pvc valve). Then we ran some errands including picking up new hardware for the inverter so the screws don't stick through the boards, and then came back and I replaced the two T valves in the galley and the head (the galley was mostly just putting on the correct hose clamps and doubling them - I had already put in the T, just making it more solid). Then I started working on some electrical - I figured out how to pull the push button light down from Bean's cabin, and tried moving it to the other side (only to find those wires were not connected - need to test tomorrow to see if they are just on another circuit or if they are not connected to the board). At least now I have a spot for the fan. As I was reading the instructions to install the fan, Bean reminded me it was almost seven and we should probably start winding down for the night ;-)
So, tomorrow we will shift gears and take care of the fuel. Once that is done, I can schedule the rigging work. And then I will get back to the electrical. Wish me luck! Trying to get as much done as I can before the end of the month!
