This morning we hopped out of bed bright and early (well, I don't know about hopped.... but got up anyway!) and started on the non-skid. We wanted to wrap up the most pressing parts today - the rest of the starboard side, the aft coaming, and the companionway cover - before it got too hot.
We started with the starboard side, thankfully it went pretty smooth, we had a good time, and we felt good. It was only 8:00, so we decided to keep going :-)
We quickly cleaned the aft coaming and the area in front of the swim ladder, and while I was taping that, Bean went forward and cleaned the companionway cover. I circled back and taped that while she rounded out the corners on the aft sections.
We went through the usual routine (Bean painting today, me pouring), and as she was wrapping up the rolling on the aft sections, I went forward and spread the paint for the companionway. Then while she pulled the tape on the back, I did the rolling. It was so smooth it felt like a dance. We were definitely in the groove and working together today!
After that I had hopes of doing a bit of electrical, but it got hot pretty fast today, so we decided to call it. We went shopping to pick up some celebratory steaks for lunch and headed over to the apartment to sup with Michael :-)
Afterwards, we came back to the boat, took a nap, went swimming, and then relaxed with a drink watching Hell's Kitchen. I was still holding out hope I would be able to do some electrical today, but it never did cool down this evening - it is still 81 degrees outside at 19:00.... so tomorrow I will get it done early!
I plan to tackle mounting the shore power main breaker panel in the lazarette tomorrow, and hopefully working on my shelf. I picked up some foam so I can try to figure out the best angles and support for the batteries and create a template. Depending on how late it is by then, maybe I'll even start cutting the wood 8-0
Next week we will touch up the last of the non-skid. We want to make the port side cut outs the same as the starboard side ( a little thinner, less space with no non-skid) - which requires turning the boat around again - and we might add a little around the dorads by the companionway cover (on either side), but overall it is looking great. We learned a lot, and would do even better next time. It is kind of an art figuring out how to tape so you have channels for the water around all the major items, and keep it symmetrical and balanced - we feel pretty good for our first time out of the gate.
Now time to wind down with a book, and then get to bed early!
