As usual, plans change around here ;-)
Tuesday I planned to start the tapping (for the sender unit screws) after buying the correct tap, and while I was out - I planned to buy the parts to put the fuel feed back together. That ended up taking a bit more time than originally planned. I started on the island (Galveston), at a plumbing supply store (only brass - bronze is recommended), then tried West Marine (small store, no parts), then on to Home Depot with no luck. Finally, I decided to go the other direction out to Kemah and hit Blackburn's - they are usually good about these kind of project parts. Happily, I met with success at Blackburn's and I now have the parts needed for the feed, but by the time I got back it was after two.
So, instead of starting the tapping, I decided to watch a couple videos on it and make sure I knew exactly what I was doing. After doing that, I realized I might not actually have the right parts for it - since the tank is stainless steel, I need a higher end bit and tap to do the work.
To add more fun, it was forecast to thunderstorm for the next few days, so Bean and I decided to head back to the apartment, hang out with Michael, do taxes, and start cleaning up this website ;-)
If I haven't mentioned yet, I don't believe we will make our goal of leaving by the end of this month...
We are hoping to wrap up the fuel project and get the engine running again in a couple weeks (fuel feed, fill, and venting projects, along with cleaning the tank). Then I need to schedule the rigging work, and depending on how far out they are scheduling will determine our next steps. Electrical has taken a back burner for now, but I plan to work on that between finishing the fuel, and getting the rigging done
One thing we have learned is that planning and sailing do not go together! Have an idea of what you want to do, but allow time for changes - more complicated projects, bad weather or tides - let life happen and enjoy the flow!
