Today was amazing! We all had time to digest everything we learned, so we flowed a lot better and weren't quite as stressed. We went to the classroom in the morning, did a very quick review, and plotted a course based on the wind. Our goal was to get to the ICW (Intra-coastal Waterway). We plotted out waypoints, and calculated estimated time to get to each waypoint, and then we met up at the boat (about a mile away from the classroom).
Once we got on the water, we discovered the winds were not coming from the direction forecasted... so in order to keep the course we had plotted we would have been going directly into the wind. So, quick change of plans, the captain had us just log every change of direction and how long we had been sailing on each course so that we would be able to map out our progress at the end of class.
We sailed out of the marina and had an amazing day. The weather was beautiful, the wind was just right - not too weak, and not too strong, and we were all feeling good. We did manage to tack our way over to the ICW, albeit on a different course! We just hit the edge of the ICW and then we turned around and came back. Today absolutely confirmed my love of sailing :-)
We had such a great time together, Russ and Katherine and I decided to see if we could schedule the 103/104 class together (along with Michael and Bean). Usually, the captain only allows 4 people per class, but since this was a special request and a class just for us, he allowed us to do it. We will be taking a 6 day course together starting November 1st!
