It's been awhile since I posted, I had to get my own thoughts together, and I wanted to give a real update. We have been discussing changes and options and paths forward. With the heat, and the weirdness of the portable air conditioner, and three of us trying to enjoy the boat - we have decided that this is not our live-aboard boat...
For two of us, this boat is perfect! Bean and I LOVE staying on the boat. We enjoy when any two of us are on the boat, but three feels cramped, and one person is less comfortable. It is a GREAT starter boat, and I have learned so much, and built so much confidence working on it, but it is time to wrap it up and think about next steps.
With that, we decided to scale down the electrical project. We will still fix the issues from the survey - no main breaker, outlet not grounded - and still install the extra outlet at the nav station, but that is the extent of the electrical. We will put the batteries and the inverter into storage, we still believe we will be able to use those on the next boat, give IT the upgrade! (And if not, we can try to sell them)
We expect to get our mast back the third week of July - we'll go drop off the boat for a couple days so they can wrap up, and then take a few days to go sailing, anchoring, and have a great time with this boat. Between now and then, and a bit after that, I'll put things back together and remove those things I mounted in preparation for the electrical project, and get her all pretty and shiny. Then we'll put this boat on the market. Probably sometime in August/September. We'll try to get some sailing days in there as well. It is bittersweet. This boat gave us sooooo much, and we love it, and we have poured our heart and soul into it - but it just isn't going to be comfortable for all three of us to live on it full time. For a weekend is ok, two of us is great, but three people is too much.
The next step, we decided to upgrade to a catamaran! We really want each person to have their own space, which means three cabins. That is much easier to find in a catamaran (though not impossible in mono hull). This was our longer term goal anyway, and it may not be the catamaran of our dreams, but it will be a good starter catamaran to get some good experience, give us more flexibility, and start our next adventure. We are hoping to find the right boat by the end of the year, but we don't plan to start looking just yet - we want to wrap up this boat first, and then I plan to pick up some work to help save money so we can 'upgrade' a little from this boat.
Wish us luck! We are excited for the future, but it will be a few months back to apartment living while we prep and plan for this next phase!
